Specifications:

Weight: Light / Medium

Composition: Wool & Polyester

Width: 152.4cm / 60inch

Pattern Repeat: 6cm / 2.36inch

Colour:

This classic plaid in a wool and poly mix is woven with a black background with a mid-grey, light grey and white overcheck. It has a soft, lightly brushed feel and a good drape and handle. You can't go wrong with a black, grey and white combination and the check is not too large so is suitable for a multitude of projects.

Properties:

Soft and drapey enough to fashion yourself a Viv Westwood style "drape and thick" skirt or dress. Add some leather kilt buckles or a metal zipper here or there and you've got yourself an edgy creation that is sure to get you noticed.

Garment Suggestions:

Are you more of a traditionalist? This would look first-rate made into a preppy pinafore dress. Ideal for office or college neat skirts. Straight or pleated, equally ideal. Why not create a smart little waistcoat for the ideal go-to garment to smarten up a dull wardrobe.

Ideal for combining with many other black-white fabric combinations (see Fabworks online black/white wool) and have yourself a superb monochrome interiors melange of checks, plaids, herringbones?

Other Uses:

Perfect! You can choose as little or as many as you dare? Great for a riot of similarly coloured cushions, but all in different designs!

Feels warm

I bought this to copy the Makers Atelier version of their hooded overshirt. It's heavyish with a tang of wool about it and I hope it will be warm. Easy to sew. Thickness of some seams and corners requires lightening of the presser foot and longer stitches. I don't know why it's called mint as pale colours are white and grey. Good quality for the price.

Not sure about the fabric - I don’t think that I would have bought it had I seen it first. It feels a bit stiff and not particularly good quality. I feel I will need to think carefully before deciding what I will use it for - I had initially though that I would make a skirt - would you advise me please what the make up content of the fabric is please. ? Ie 50/50 wool/man made etc. I look forward to hearing from you - many thanks. EileenMahon

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
