Introduction:

This Melton wool is created by weaving yarn on the warp and weft. The fabric is then fulled - one of the processes used in creating melton to give that felt-like finish.

Colour:

Double Up - Navy Duffle Wool Coating is a super soft, double wool fabric. This hard-wearing fabric boasts a classic navy hue. This closely woven double twill is felted to give it a dense and cosy brushed quality. A supremely warm classic coating will work perfectly with all your winter clothing. Remember that wool, especially this heavy, is naturally showerproof as well.

Properties:

This is a super sturdy and heavy fabric it has a soft wool feel and a heavy drape quality.

Garment Suggestions:

The emphasis is on hard-wearing yet soft, overcoats, pea coats and jackets made up in Double Up will become long-term favourites. Traditional duffle coats are of course the perfect garment to make from this quality woollen. You can't go wrong with a navy-hued, duffle coat with horn or wooden toggles.

A heavy fabric that is ideal for donkey jacket styles with leather yokes. Team your garments up with weathered tan leather for a superb combination. Historical costume makers and reenactors, this classic fabric is perfect for a profusion of a hard-wearing coat.

Other Uses:

If dressmaking isn't your forte, use Double Up for upholstery and soft furnishing projects such as seat pads, boxed cushions and footstools. You could also appliqué with rustic country tweeds and leathers for a very bespoke style.

Did you know that this thick woollen fabric takes its name from the traditional Duffel Coat, which takes its name from the town of Duffel in the province of Antwerp (Belgium) where the original Duffel fabric was made?

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
