Shades: This classic marled all-wool Melton is woven in a superb melange yarn that can only be described as sheep’s fleece beige. A wonderfully natural melange of natural white and cream, with a sprinkling of darker fibres ranging from soft brown to grey hues. Naturally pleasing and wonderfully versatile, this beautifully balanced neutral tone is simply timeless.

Design: An all-over marl, flat weave speckled with darker and lighter cream, beige and grey fibres.

Overall: Warm, hard-wearing, naturally showerproof and windproof, strong and durable, this classic neutral marled tone is a true all-rounder, ideal for a plethora of uses.

Properties:

Texture: This medium/heavyweight, closely woven wool fabric has a brushed, felted, blanket-like hand that protects against the elements.

Handle: Stable, extremely hard-wearing and highly insulating fabric. Wool Melton duffle-type fabrics are densely woven, meaning they keep the warmth in and the noise out as well as naturally repelling water to keep you dry and warm.

Drape: With a heavy weight and accompanying drape quality, this fabric feels like a protective hug. Envelope yourself in this high-quality wool!

Garment Suggestions:

Types: Perfect for heavy outerwear like dramatic coats and capes. A versatile & luxurious fabric ideal for both interiors and fashion. Traditional duffle coats are, of course, the perfect garment to make from this sturdy fabric. Try symmetrical poncho styles, ruanas, capes and overcoats. Consider combining with the other fabrics from this collection for colourful colour-blocked styles.

Historical costume makers and reenactors - this iconic fabric is perfect for durable period costumes!

Patterns: Consider patterns such as the Biker Jacket Cardi Pattern or Ilford Jacket.

Other Uses:

Accessories: Bags, protective covers for technical equipment, crafts, draught excluders, storage cubes, and so much more.

Furnishings: From scatter cushions and bolsters, to bespoke upholstery and boxed covers, to elegant curtains and blinds. Team with classic country tweeds, use patchwork style combinations or appliqué designs for a country gentleman's club style - perfect alongside antique leather and wooden furniture.

Upcycling: Put your scraps to use and create brooches, appliqués, or use as a base for needle felting projects.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
