Introduction:
Windswept Palms is a handsome shirt/dress weight 100% cotton fabric with designer provenance and all the practical plus points of chambray, plus the beauteous aesthetic of a designer print rolled into one.
Colour:
Windswept Palms deep-dyed and superfine indigo blue weft yarns are woven alongside a lustrous white weft creating a dark denim hue with multi-tonal appeal thanks to the clever printed design of windswept banana palm leaves.
Properties:
Windswept Palms The combination of fine yarns and expert twill weave has produced a fabric which is lightweight but certainly not flimsy. The palm leaves design on the face side is printed with a navy background, creating negative spaces where the leaves showcase the lighter denim hues.
The reverse is a silky smooth plain denim-like twill. The close weave construction of fine yarns gives excellent stability akin to chambray and also a soft drape quality which will produce full gathers, pleats and tucks where required. Windswept Palms will also produce crisp details - collars, cuffs button bands with the use of a lightweight interfacing.
Garment Suggestions:
Windswept Palms This ex-designer, shirt weight fabric will of course make fabulous classic shirts and blouses but consider alternative styles with western-style shaped yokes and matching pearlised stud fasteners. Liberty Patterns' Camargue Cowboy Shirt and McCalls 7980 Western Shirt, has both men's and ladies options, are perfect. Choose contrasting piping or add some Liberty Style poplin for accent details. Blouses with soft ruffles, flounces and puffed sleeves will look superb in this versatile fabric.
Sew Different Layer Up Collection is ideal for creating workable separates in this excellent fabric. The Essential Denim Dress and Tulip Dress are also excellent styles to make. Think of this fabric as lightweight denim and create trendy baby and toddler dungarees, rompers etc, shorts for all the family and lightweight comfy trousers.
The Megan Nielsen Patterns' Protea Capsule Wardrobe would make perfect examples of pretty full-gathered styles for easy, stunning outfits and so versatile!
Other Uses:
Add accents of this fabric to your crafting stash for a light almost textural - detail within patchwork and applique pieces and so much more.
