Introduction:

Azzimato Check - Fine Italian Worsted is a super stylish, fine worsted wool suiting. This sublime, fine Italian suiting was originally woven for the same British designer as our SOS Collection and features a superb all over checked design. Perfect for creating dapper (or in Italian, azzimato) styles for sharply dressed men's and women's apparel.

Colour:

The pleasing classic palette of blue and grey tones features multi-tonal dark greys as the background and provides the perfect stage for the fine yarns of sky blue and rich navy.

Properties:

Azzimato Check boasts a soft cool feel, with a lightweight drapey handle that's stable across the width and length and has slight stretch down the length due to the added elastane, making it ideal for slim-fit trousers and other fitted attire.

Garment Suggestion:

You'd be a fool to consign this stunning fabric to the 'suiting only' projects pile. This will make both comfortable, warm (but not too warm) garments that can be dressed up or dressed down. A lightweight classic grey-based wool perfect for gentlemen's and gentle women's work attire, with crease-resistant properties due to its fine weave and wool composition!

Put this superb fabric to use for less formal but equally smart outfits, such as shirt dresses, tunics, pinafore dresses and skirts. The Merchant & Mills Shirt Dress and Trapeze Dress will look stunning in this fabric.

There's also a simple drawstring-waist trouser pattern (The 101 Trouser by Merchant & Mills), which will work perfectly with this lightweight wool. Emphasise the fabulous drape quality and show off the subtle lustrous sheen of this handsome fabric by bias cutting to create Viv Westwood style tuck and drape dresses and skirts.

Other suggested uses are simple unlined coatigans. There are many other patterns suitable to use with this fine worsted wool, just think clean simple lines and unfussy cuts!

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
