Introduction:
A new addition to the website and manufactured by the same renowned European company as our summer Linens of 2021. This superb, fine linen and cotton blend comes to you in classic tones of indigo and white making it ideal for a multitude of sewing room projects.
Colour:
These fabrics are the same superior quality and with an assortment of even more colours, designs and natural fibre types. Natural fibre lovers, this is for you!
Indigo - Chambray Style Linen & Cotton is just as its name suggests a fabulously soft (almost washed and worn), cool, breathable linen and cotton blend fabric. Woven from a combination of fresh natural white yarns (on the weft) and rich deep indigo on the warp. The combination creates a fabulous sketchy melange effect with the look of denim chambray. An intricate feature selvedge provides the opportunity to use it at hemlines, cuffs and feature yokes.
Properties:
This blended fabric gives you the benefits of both wonderful natural fibres. Cotton blended with linen produces a softer, finer fabric which results in fewer creases when worn, which in turn makes it easier to iron.
Linen and cotton have been used for centuries because of their beneficial properties; cool and breathable, get softer with washing & wear and linen is impervious to moths and resists dirt and stains.
Linen will not form lint or pill and can be washed at high temperatures with only moderate shrinkage. The characteristic slubs (once viewed as a fault) are now part of the aesthetic appeal of quality linen fabric.
Garment Suggestions:
Suitable for a multitude of pleasing projects whether you are clothing you and yours, producing a range of niche boutique wear or furnishing your own french chateau or country cottage. Natural fibre fabrics with timeless appeal.
Our very own Pattern Stash: Cordelia Trousers, Amelia Skirt, Lynsey Dungarees & Jemima Waistcoat are suitable to use with the medium weight linens which have slightly more structure. The use of interfacing and or interlining may be required on areas that require more structure such as waistbands, collars etc.
The Layer Up Collection by Sew Different is also ideal for creating a capsule wardrobe of fresh spring-summer Linen and (Linen blend) makes you will want to take through into autumn.
Indigo is stable, soft and has the feel of a favourite linen shirt. This light (but not flimsy) relaxed chambray style fabric will form crisp details (with a little light interfacing), on collars and cuffs. Used in quantity it will form feminine gathers, pleats, pintucks and ruffles. So all you have to do is decide what to make.
Soft, breathable and oh so comfortable you will want to make a wardrobe full of key pieces for a superb, summer layered-chic linen look. Its lightweight and soft drape make it the ideal candidate for a plethora of uses from the stylish to the practical.
Add some smocking details to the finely gathered bodice of a pretty dress for an on-trend Boho style. Alternatively, add some embroidered braid or appliques for folk art style worthy of Frida Khalo (Sewing Bee series 7 will provide inspiration).
Put Indigo to use for simple boat-necked tops and pretty blouses, it's also perfect for creating layering garments such as vest tops, drapey tunics and pinafore dresses. Heavily pleated culottes and shorts will look superb in this classic denim/ chambray style fabric.
Team this versatile linen and cotton fabric with others from the range for a totally complimentary wardrobe in cool and breathable natural fibres.
