Composition: 100% Wool

Width: 156cm / 61.4inch

Introduction:

Chianti Wine is suitable for a wide range of seriously smart or smart/casual clothing (depending on the patterns and styles you choose to create) and has a designer pedigree. Originally made in Italy for the same designer as our SOS Collection, it's equally stunning and perfect for cross-seasonal wear - after all, wool is naturally temperature-regulating!

Colour:

Woven in Italy from a wonderful combination of multi-tonal, rich red wine and black melange yarns that sit across the weft. The warp is formed from closely packed delicious, dark wine and rich raisin brown yarns, to form a super soft flat weave fabric with an almost mini basket weave detail.

Properties:

Chianti Wine this first-rate wool flannel suiting fabric is stable and strong and boasts a cosy, medium-weight drape. It has a subtle sheen that catches the light and begs to be used for elegant attire - after all... suiting is not just for suits!

Why use cotton flannel when you can snuggle into this all-wool naturally temperature-regulating wool?  Use Chianti Wine for super-smart work attire, wide-legged Katherine Hepburn style trousers, culottes and classic pleat-fronted trousers, neat pencil skirts, dresses and fit & flare dresses.

Garment Suggestion:

Utilise the excellent drape quality and add feminine ruffle details to your skirts and dresses; peplums and fishtail hemlines will be perfect on '50s style wiggle dresses. Your neat shift dresses and pinafores will become key workwear pieces made in this flawless fabric.

Update this classic to create smart casual styles you can dress up or dress down: sports luxe styles such as bomber and Harrington style jackets with gleaming zips and stud details. Create cosy utility-style boiler suits, over-shirts and shirt dresses, or blouson jackets with a retro vibe. This first-rate fabric will make neat and sharp details like pocket flaps and collars and cuffs really stand out.

Love this wool!

This is probably my favorite wool that I have ever worked with (and I've worked with a lot)! It's super soft and luxurious. It has a lovely hand and drape. The pictures don't do this fabric justice. It's absolutely gorgeous. I plan to make a skirt.

Great value

Soft light flannel, this washed well on 30 wool wash in the machine ( I live on the edge). Fulled a little very small shrinkage. Nice texture. Not cut out yet but I will make a light spring time Ethel (StyleArc) pants. Would make a shirt or dress possibly a duster.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
