Blackened Blue Fine Worsted is a wonderfully soft, drapey and lightweight Italian woven wool worsted that is stable both width and lengthwise. Its intense blue-black colour is so versatile that it has one million uses and more!

Why should only tailors get to use beautiful suitings? Blackened Blue is perfect for ladies drapey dress designs and is also stable enough for shirts and shirt dresses. Of course, you can't beat a classic navy suit can you?

If suit making isn't your forte, fear not! Put this superb fabric to use for less formal, but equally smart outfits, such as shirts, tunics, pinafore dresses and skirts too. The Merchant & Mills 'Shirt Dress' and 'Trapeze Dress' will look stunning in this fabric. There's also a simple drawstring-waist trouser pattern too (The 101 Trouser'), which will work perfectly with the Blackened Blue Fine Worsted.

There are many other patterns available suitable to use with Blackened Blue Fine Worsted, think clean simple lines and unfussy cuts!

Lovely fabric, but...

This is an extremely nice fabric, so soft and silky that it's hard to believe it is wool. It will make something very nice in the way of a shirt or a soft skirt. Unfortunately I ordered it thinking it would be, as "worsted" somewhat more firm and substantial, so my original plan for it had to be put aside. However, it is so nice that I would not send it back, but will make something different out of it.

Why choose wool fabric? Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
