Introduction:
Welcome to Fabworks’ House Linen: a collection of carefully curated colours, created from a base cloth of linen and cotton.
Initially sourced as deadstock overruns, we rescued this fabric that had a light washed colour, which meant that it would be perfect to overdye. Now rejuvenated and repurposed into some of our favourite shades, the House Linen collection features a range of hand-picked hues that sit together in a paint box-like palette. Voilà!
Colour:
House Linen Twill - Turkish Cove boasts a deep turquoise-teal hue, the colour of Kingfisher plumage, Regal Peacocks and of course, the colour of the most perfect paradise cove you will find on the Turkish coastline at the height of summer. The colour Turquoise literally comes from the Turkish colour name Turkuaz! Turkish Cove will sit harmoniously with its siblings in the House Twill Linen Collection; Verdant Veridian, Ocean Deep and Ecstatic Blue for a harmonious blue-green palette.
Properties:
The House Linen Twills have been created through dyeing and finishing a twill woven linen (43%) & cotton (57%) blend fabric. The diagonals of the superfine twill weave sit alongside a scattering of characteristic subtle slubs, resulting in a lightly brushed finish. This cosy but not cloying, cool and breathable fabric is stable yet drapey, and features a super soft handle that is simply sublime, perfect for a multitude of garments.
One of the many benefits that the House Linen offers is that it will wash and wear forever, only improving with age due to the hard-wearing properties of its natural fibres: cotton and linen.
The House Linen has been created using two different base cloths, please note the difference between House Linen Twill and House Linen Oxford. There is minimal weight/GSM difference between the two fabrics, allowing you to interchange easily - use individually or try colour-blocking styles for fun combinations!
Background:
Now in its fifth generation, the family behind Fabworks has been working with 'textile waste' for over 100 years, whether that be in reclaimed textiles, cleaning rags & wipers, shoddy, loose fibres, or second-hand clothing. Fast forward to the 21st century, where fabric and sewing notions is the company’s main focus, we now find ourselves breaking new ground with a bespoke selection of fabrics that we have dyed in the UK, just in time for S/S 2023.
Garments Suggestions:
Simple slashed-neck T-shirt style tops and classic shirts are perfect to use with House Linen and will become key pieces in your wardrobe for year-round wear. Alternatively, create wide-legged trousers, tunics, smocks, and summer dresses.
