Reindeer - Melton Duffle Coating is a truly hard-wearing and hardworking 100% wool fabric. This closely woven twill is felted to give it a dense and firm, lightly brushed quality.

Reindeer woven with melange yarn has an earthy and natural palette, the colour of dried leaf-strewn, forest floors filled with lichen moss. The perfect hue for country lovers who want to blend in with their surroundings.

Reindeer is supremely warm and will mix and match perfectly with wool tweeds and other country clothing fabric choices.

Boasting a super sturdy and stable handle, it has a traditional felted wool feel yet is soft with a heavy drape quality.

Garment Suggestions:

Hard-wearing field coats and jackets made up in Reindeer will team up perfectly with country tweeds.

This heavy fabric is ideal for duffle and donkey jacket styles with leather yokes. Team your garments up with weathered tan leather for a superb combination.

Other Uses:

Traditional Duffle or overcoats are of course the perfect garment to make from this sturdy fabric, and the blank canvas, solid black background allows plenty of room for creative freedom, allowing one to embellish with folk style embroidery or needle felting (akin to Austrian folk styles)  Get creative and add ethnic embroidered trims for instant results and a unique style to be proud of.

"Did you know this coarse, thick woollen fabric takes its name from the traditional Duffel Coat, which takes its name from the town of Duffel in the province of Antwerp in Belgium where the original Duffel fabric was made? Field Marshall Montgomery created an iconic style of wearing the duffel throughout his WW2 campaigns."

If clothesmaking isn't your forte, use Reindeer for upholstery and soft furnishing projects such as seat pads, boxed cushions and footstools. You could also appliqué with rustic country tweeds and leathers for a very rural or gentlemen's club vibe!

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
